Important: RecallorNOT searches publicly available federal recall databases (CPSC, FDA) and optionally uses AI-powered web search to compile product safety information. Results are not guaranteed and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. This tool is not a substitute for checking official recall notices directly and is not affiliated with any government agency or recall monitoring service.

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using RecallorNOT, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. How It Works

RecallorNOT is a client-side web application that runs entirely in your browser. Basic recall searches query free federal APIs directly from your browser — no API key or account required. For camera scanning and AI-powered deep safety analysis, you can optionally provide your own Groq API key. All processing is performed directly between your browser, the CPSC API at saferproducts.gov, the FDA API at api.fda.gov, and optionally Groq's API at api.groq.com. There is no RecallorNOT server — the site is static code hosted on Cloudflare's CDN. No search data, recall results, or product information is received, processed, or stored by us.

3. Your API Key

If you choose to add a Groq API key for camera and deep scan features, you are responsible for your own key. By using these features, you agree to:

Comply with Groq's Terms of Use
Keep your API key secure
Accept responsibility for all usage under your key

RecallorNOT does not have access to your API key and cannot be held responsible for charges incurred on your Groq account. The API key is entirely optional — basic recall search works without it.

4. Data Sources

RecallorNOT retrieves product safety information from the following sources:

CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) — A free, public federal API providing recall data for consumer products including toys, electronics, furniture, and household items. No API key required. Data at saferproducts.gov.
FDA (Food and Drug Administration) — A free, public federal API providing recall data for food, drugs, and medical devices. No API key required. Data at api.fda.gov.
Groq AI (optional) — Used for camera-based product label reading and AI-powered deep safety analysis. Requires your own free API key from console.groq.com/keys.

All data comes from publicly available sources. RecallorNOT does not access private databases, proprietary recall monitoring systems, or any non-public data sources.

5. No Guarantees

Product recall results may be incomplete, inaccurate, or miss records entirely. Common limitations include:

Products recalled under different names or model numbers
Recalls not yet entered into federal databases
International recalls not covered by US federal databases
Voluntary recalls not formally reported to CPSC or FDA
AI analysis errors or misinterpretations in deep scan
Database search limitations (spelling variations, brand changes)

You agree that results are informational only and require further verification. A "no recalls found" result does not guarantee a product is safe or has never been recalled.

6. Not a Substitute for Official Sources

RecallorNOT is not a substitute for:

Checking CPSC.gov/Recalls directly
Checking FDA.gov recall alerts directly
Registering products with manufacturers for direct recall notifications
Professional product safety assessments
Reading and following all product safety labels and manuals

Always verify recall information through official government channels.

7. Not Affiliated with Government Agencies

RecallorNOT is an independent tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the CPSC, FDA, NHTSA, or any other government agency. We do not operate their databases — we simply provide a convenient interface to query their public APIs.

8. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use RecallorNOT for:

Commercial resale of recall data or reports
Automated bulk searches or data scraping of federal APIs
Fraudulent misrepresentation of product safety status
Any purpose that violates federal, state, or local laws

9. No Data Retention

Because RecallorNOT operates entirely in your browser, no search data is retained by us. Search queries, recall results, and product information exist only in your browser tab and are lost when you close it. See our Privacy Policy for full details on our BYOK architecture.

10. Limitation of Liability

RecallorNOT is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for:

Any decisions made based on recall search results
Inaccuracies in CPSC, FDA, or AI-generated data
Product injuries or damages from items not identified as recalled
Any issues arising from your use of the Groq API
Financial losses resulting from reliance on search results
Incomplete or outdated recall information in federal databases

11. Free Forever Guarantee

RecallorNOT is and will remain completely free for all users, with zero tracking. This is a fundamental term of the product:

No premium tiers, paywalls, or paid features — ever
No analytics, tracking pixels, cookies, or user data collection
No advertisements
The BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) architecture ensures user privacy by design
Basic recall search requires no API key at all

In the event of a sale or transfer of ownership, these terms are binding on any successor. The product must remain free with zero tracking as a condition of any acquisition.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the service indicates acceptance of any changes.
